Food writer, food consultant and former chef to the rich and famous including Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Angela Gray is one of the leading lights on the food scene in Wales. Having spent some eight years globe trotting with her chef's kit, she came home to settle in Cardiff, and to pursue a slightly different career in the media world. A degree in Consumer Science together with her extensive knowledge of food formed the basis of what has become an amazing culinary adventure.
Angela has presented two cookery series for BBC Wales namely, “Hot Stuff” and “More Hot Stuff”, which took the viewing audience on a whistle stop cooks' tour of Wales. A book followed named after the series, containing all the recipes and anecdotes from the programmes. She has a regular radio series on BBC Wales entitled “My Life on A Plate”, grilling guests like Kim Howells MP, Lowri Turner, Stephen Bull and John Humphries about what their favourite menu would consist of. She is a regular visitor to the BBC guesting on the Jamie Owen show where she cooks up a feast of healthy dishes using local ingredients.
Angela has penned a second book ‘The Welsh Cheese Book' (Gomer) which is a celebration of the wonderful cheeses now available from Wales. She has also written many food related articles for newspapers (2 year column for Wales On Sunday) and magazines over the years, and an Applied Media Studies module which she lectures at the University Wales Institute Cardiff to third year students.
She is currently writing a third book and running her business ‘Food In Focus Ltd'. The company employs the expertise of individuals offering a range of specialised services to the food and hospitality industries. These include; food photography and styling (check out her portfolio at www.foodinfocus.com/gallery) , cookery presentations, restaurant consultancy, and organising food events nationally and internationally. Her work has given her the opportunity to work with many of the top names in the business like Paul Rankin, Brian Turner, Antonio Carluccio, Anthony Worral Thompson, Leslie Waters and Jean Christophe Novelli to name but a few.
Food In Focus has also developed a food education project ‘Cook Start' which aims to work with schools and the wider community. The project's principles are based on empowering individuals to make more informed choices about the foods they eat, how to achieve a balanced diet, how to budget, prepare and cook quick healthy dishes and impart the pleasure of ‘real' cooking and enjoyment of eating.
In September 2004 Angela launched her latest culinary adventure ‘Taste In The City' offering a range of cookery presentations, delicious suppers and hands-on classes. For more information check out Angela's website- www.foodinfocus.com
