Abercarn Primary Toasts Breakfast Club Boost

11 November 2011

Abercarn Primary School’s Breakfast Club has received a dough-nation of table-top toys and craft equipment, thanks to Brace’s Bakery.

Toys for the long-standing morning club have always been funded by the school’s canteen staff, who provide the facility for early-morning drop-offs for pupils aged between 3 and 11.

During the Summer months, club members are encouraged to participate in outdoor activities and team games, but at this time of year, the children are busy playing games and creating Christmas gifts for their parents, while enjoying a nutritious breakfast before starting their school day.

Staff at the breakfast club applied for a slice of Brace’s Bread for the Community Fund, which is to mark the Crumlin-based company’s 109th year of baking in Wales. The family-run bakery has pledged to make donations of £109 to 109 local charities, sports teams and community groups during 2011.

Scott Richardson, Sales and Marketing Director at Brace’s, said: “Breakfast is such a crucial part of any healthy lifestyle and groups like Abercarn Breakfast Club that emphasise to children from a young age the importance of fuelling up early for a productive day, is thoroughly worthwhile.

"At Brace’s we have always emphasised the importance of a balanced diet, particularly through our complimentary Primary School Visitor programme, and we are always keen to thank the local communities that have been loyal to Brace’s over the last 109 years.

“We appreciate that daily routines are more hectic than ever for parents and to be able to take their children to school a little bit earlier every day, knowing they can enjoy themselves and are well looked after, can make the world of difference to pretty stressful working schedules. This club seems a fantastic place for children to enhance their physical development, and to learn through the medium of play, while tucking into their favourite Brace’s bread.”
