Food Hygiene
The following rules should be applied when preparing and cooking food at home.
- Wash and dry your hands before you start, and after preparing raw meat and fish.
- Tie back long hair.
- Wear a clean apron to keep your clothes clean and to protect the food.
- Do not cough or sneeze over food. Use a handkerchief, and then wash hands before touching food again.
- Cover cuts, scratches, sores or rashes with a waterproof dressing, which should be changed regularly.
- Be careful when using sharp knives and scissors. Always keep your fingers out of the way and concentrate on what you are doing.
- Never use the same chopping board for preparing raw meat or fish and cooked things, use a separate board for ingredients such as salad, which are going to be eaten raw.
- Be careful when using the oven, grill and hobs as they can burn. Always use oven gloves when putting food into or taking food out of the oven or from under the grill.
- Sugar and hot oil can also burn so be careful when cooking with these ingredients.
- Don't forget to turn off the oven, grill or hob when you have finished cooking.
- Always wash the dishes and tidy up after cooking, not forgetting to wipe clean the work surfaces.
